Instinct
Instinct
Instinct is a defensive ability that improves awareness and survivability by allowing players to predict incoming attacks and automatically dodge certain hits. It also lets players see nearby entities through solid objects, making it useful for tracking enemies and locating targets. While Instinct provides strong defensive utility, it is not a complete defense tool. Certain attacks can break Instinct, temporarily disable its effects and leaving the player vulnerable until it becomes available again. Players can upgrade Instinct to Instinct V2 by completing the Citizen's quest and earning 5,000 EXP with the base ability. Instinct can be activated or deactivated using [E] on keyboard, the Left D-Pad on controller, or the Eye button on mobile devices.
Obtainment:
Instinct can be obtained by purchasing it from the Instinct Teacher once the player meets the required conditions. To unlock the ability, players must be Level 300 or higher, have $750,000 available, and complete the Saber Puzzle. If the Instinct Teacher refuses to teach the ability and mentions not accepting weaklings into the crew, it means one of these requirements has not been completed.
In Instinct:
When Instinct is active, it highlights nearby entities with different colors to help players quickly identify targets and allies. Red highlights indicate enemies, bosses, raid bosses, and hostile NPC targets, including certain fruit-related NPCs. White highlights represent players who are not allied with the user, while green highlights show allied players. This visual system makes it easier to track enemies, identify teammates, and react faster during combat.
Dodges:
While Instinct is active, players gain a limited number of dodges that automatically avoid certain incoming attacks. The number of available dodges increases with Instinct’s level, starting at 2 dodges at Level 1 and gaining 1 additional dodge per level. Each dodge charge takes around 50 seconds to recharge. Regular enemies consume 0.5 dodge charges per hit, while bosses and other players consume 1 full charge, making Instinct more effective for extended fights against weaker enemies than against high-pressure PvP or boss encounters.
• A glitch may occur when joining a new server and activating Instinct for the first time, briefly showing 8/8 dodges before returning to the player’s actual dodge count. These extra dodges disappear quickly and cannot be used. This glitch does not work for players who already have 8 dodges.
• For farming Instinct EXP, it is recommended to defeat Shandas while server hopping, as they provide many dodge opportunities, spawn close to their area, and are near the Instinct Teacher, allowing players to check their EXP level easily.
• Players who want to AFK farm Instinct EXP should use weaker enemies like Bandits or Monkeys because they deal low damage. Bandits are especially useful because they are located in a safe zone where players cannot be killed. Players using Elemental-type fruits must fight enemies with Aura or bosses, as normal enemies may not damage them.
• Using accessories that increase Instinct dodge charges is recommended, as their extra dodges also count toward EXP progression. Accessories such as Pale Scarf and Kitsune Mask provide +2 dodges, while Dojo Belt (Black), Holiday Cloak, and Leviathan Crown provide +1 dodge.
• Regular enemies consume 0.5 Instinct dodge charges per hit, while bosses and players consume 1 full charge. To see players who are not attacking you while using Instinct, you must first damage the enemy.
Increasing Dodges
Players can increase their Instinct level and maximum dodges by gaining Instinct EXP from successfully dodging attacks while Instinct is active. Each dodge grants 1 EXP, and current EXP can be checked by talking to the Instinct Teacher in Upper Skylands, EXP requirements for each level are estimated and not officially confirmed.
