Cutlass

Cutlass is a Common sword that serves as an early-game weapon for new players. It provides a basic introduction to sword combat and can be used for progression during the initial stages of the game.

However, the Cutlass has slow attacks and lacks any standout strengths, making it easy to replace as better weapons become available. Its overall performance is limited, especially when compared to other swords obtained later in the First Sea.

The Cutlass is mainly useful during the early levels, but it becomes largely obsolete by around level 200, when players gain access to stronger and more effective alternatives.

Obtainment:

The Cutlass can be purchased for $1,000 from the Sword Dealer
in Pirate Starter / Marine Starter.

Strengths & Weaknesses

A quick breakdown of where this build shines and struggles.

Strengths

  • Good beginner weapon for early First Sea progression.

  • Very cheap and easy to obtain.

  • Low mastery requirements allow players to unlock its full moveset quickly.

  • Useful for players who do not yet own a Blox Fruit.

  • Good for training Aura, as its low damage allows for more hits before defeating enemies.

  • Both skills have AoE, making them slightly more effective for early grinding.

  • Quiet Rush [Z] has a fast startup.

  • Air Slash [X] deals decent damage relative to the early game.

  • Simple and easy-to-understand moveset.

Weaknesses

  • Cannot damage Blade-type users.

  • Neither skill breaks Instinct.

  • Extremely poor damage output overall.

  • Long cooldowns are unjustified for such a weak weapon.

  • Quickly becomes outclassed by nearly every other sword in the game.

  • The upgrade path is expensive and impractical, requiring Angel Wings from much higher-level enemies.

  • Quiet Rush [Z] suffers from very poor range.

  • Air Slash [X] is slow, short-ranged, and easy to dodge.

  • Offers almost no value in PvP.

Verdict

Cutlass is a basic starter sword designed to help new players through the earliest stages of the game. Its affordability, low mastery requirements, and usefulness for Aura training make it a decent temporary option for beginners.

Unfortunately, its terrible damage, lack of Instinct-breaking capabilities, and poor scaling cause it to become obsolete very quickly. The fact that its upgrade materials come from enemies far beyond its intended level range only adds to its impracticality.
