Saber
Saber is a Legendary sword from the First Sea, earned by solving the Saber Puzzle and beating the Saber Expert in the Jungle at level 200 or higher. Its two moves are a charging dash (Z) and a set of red slashes (X), and both open by 125 mastery.
It hits hard, especially in its V2 form, which you unlock through Bounty or Honor and a PvP kill. It is a First Sea pick to replace before the Third Sea, because neither move breaks Instinct.

Quick questions about Saber
What moves does Saber have?
Rows marked V1 or V2 show the two versions of the sword.
Saber moves, mastery and Instinct (V1 and V2)
Three slashes, ending with a stab.
Charges up, then dashes forward and cuts everything on the path with blood-red slashes.
Fires three red air slashes toward the cursor, pulling enemies back a little as they hit.
The same as V1: three slashes, ending with a stab.
Charges up and dashes forward, then also sends two air slashes. It is V1's Z and X in one move. Where the dash and the slashes overlap, a landed hit does extremely high damage, about two sword moves at once.
Fires a red projectile made of four beams toward the cursor, with more damage and a larger hitbox than the V1 version.

How do you get Saber?
Saber is a boss drop behind a puzzle, and Saber V2 is an upgrade you earn in PvP. The Saber Puzzle has its own full guide.
- Where: the Saber Expert is a level 200 boss with 11,000 HP in a small hidden room in the Jungle. He respawns every 20 minutes.
- First, the puzzle: the Saber Puzzle guide walks through it. In short: press the five green buttons across the Jungle, take the torch from the hidden room under the quest giver's house, burn the curtain in the Desert house and take the cup, fill it at the dripping stalactite in the Frozen Village, help the Sick Man, beat the Mob Leader for the Rich Man in Pirate Village, then use the Ancient Relic he gives you on the stone building in the Jungle to open the door.
- The fight: you cannot hurt him below level 200 or before the puzzle is done, and you must deal at least 10% of the damage to him to get the drop. He heals fast if you stop attacking. Hit him from outside the door with long or mid-range moves from Light or Ice.
- The drop: 100%, so a single kill gives you the Saber. Beating him is also required to unlock Instinct.

The Saber Expert.
How do you get Saber V2?
- Steps: reach 1,000,000 Bounty or Honor, then kill a player of a similar level. "Similar" means within about 25% of your level.
- Rules that trip people up: the player you kill does not need 1,000,000 Bounty or Honor. A suspicious kill does not count, and neither does a player you have already killed 3 of 3 times for the reward limit. It works in any sea, and the Saber only has to be in your inventory, not equipped.
- Check: the chat message "Something weird has occurred to your Saber" means it worked. If you did everything but do not own the Saber, you get a message that you lack the item.
How do you upgrade Saber, and what does it give?
One Blacksmith upgrade gives +15% damage (see the Upgrading guide). This Blacksmith upgrade is separate from Saber V2.

What are the best Saber combos?
Easiest first. Every chain uses Saber X then Z, with a stun, fruit or fighting style around them. The last one needs Saber V2.
Super easy: Saber and Superhuman, no fruit
- Keys: Saber X > Saber Z > Superhuman Z > Superhuman X
- Needs: Superhuman; melee and sword stats.
- Tip: The easiest Saber one-shot that needs no fruit. Open with a stun, and use Skull Guitar X first to drain the target's Instinct dodges, because Saber's moves can be dodged with Instinct.
Easy: Saber and Water Kung Fu
- Keys: Saber X > Saber Z > Water Kung Fu Z > Water Kung Fu X > Water Kung Fu C
- Needs: Water Kung Fu.
- Tip: The last move, Water Kung Fu C, is optional.
Easy: Ice and Godhuman
Easy: Awakened Dark and Godhuman, Saber V2
- Keys: Awakened Dark Z > Godhuman Z > Saber X > Saber Z > Godhuman C
- Needs: Awakened Dark, Godhuman and Saber V2.
- Tip: Dark Z can be dodged with Instinct, but following it with Godhuman Z fixes that.
Saber strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
General
- Reachable early in the First Sea.
- Good for grinding in both versions.
- Low mastery needs: 50 and 125.
Saber V1
- Good damage.
- Deadly Rush (Z) is a good combo extender and travels farther than the V2 version.
- Triple Slash (X) has a good area.
Saber V2
- Decent range on the M1 and the moves.
- Each move drains three of the target's Instinct dodges, up to six in total.
- Easy to use and not hard to unlock.
- Deadly Rush (Z) deals extremely high damage if every slash lands, the most of any single sword move in the game so far.
- Triple Slash (X) has a really good area.
Weaknesses
General (both versions)
- Cannot damage players using the Blade fruit.
- Neither move breaks Instinct, so both can be dodged with it.
- A little end lag that is punishable when a move misses.
Saber V1
- Very slow M1.
- Low mobility compared with swords such as Yama.
- Deadly Rush (Z) is fairly hard to hit.
- Triple Slash (X) needs aim, or one or two of the three slashes often miss.
Saber V2
- Travels less than V1.
- Hard to use alone in PvP: the moves are not independent and need a combo starter such as Ice V or C.
- Deadly Rush (Z) is hard to land with every slash.
- Triple Slash (X) is easy to avoid.
Verdict
Take Saber as your First Sea main: it opens at level 200 and hits hard. V2 stays useful in Second Sea PvP if you set it up with a stun or an Ice or Dark starter. Replace it before the Third Sea, where opponents use Instinct and its moves do little.
Saber tips and tricks
- Bounty hunting: pair Saber with Ice or Dark. Dark's X pulls enemies into the critical range of Z.
- Aim the V2 Deadly Rush: aim accurately at your opponent to land a critical hit.
- Walls: Deadly Rush (V1 or V2) can go through thin walls, such as the igloos in the cold part of Hot and Cold. Stand next to the entrance without touching the wall and use Z forward.
