Midnight Blade

The Midnight Blade is a Legendary sword that serves as a steady option for Second Sea progression. It performs reliably in grinding, offering consistent damage and simple handling that works well for regular farming without needing precise setups or timing.

Its performance drops in PvP due to how predictable the moves are. Most of its attacks can be easily Instinct-tricked, leaving clear openings for opponents to punish. This becomes more noticeable in the Third Sea, where players rely on faster and less readable weapons.

It fits as a temporary progression sword, but it does not hold up well in higher-level PvP, and players typically replace it once stronger options are available.

Strengths & Weaknesses

A quick breakdown of where this build shines and struggles.

Strengths

  • Strong damage output for its stage of progression, especially in close-range fights.

  • Reliable stuns that allow basic combo chaining without strict timing.

  • [Z] Portal Opening has a decent hitbox and can be triggered without breaking Instinct, making it safer to start pressure.

  • [X] Crescent Dash adds mobility and helps reposition during combos.

  • Both [Z] and [X] can hit multiple enemies, making group farming easier.

  • Can damage Sea Beasts, giving it some use in Sea Events.

  • No M1 dash keeps movement stable during grinding.

  • Easy to obtain after level 1250 through Ectoplasm farming.

Weaknesses

  • Cannot damage Blade users, which is a hard limitation in PvP.

  • Short range and small hitboxes make it unreliable against mobile targets.

  • Both [Z] Portal Opening and [X] Crescent Dash are easily dodged with Instinct.

  • [Z] Portal Opening requires a target and does not true-stun, so it can be countered mid-animation.

  • High knockback on [Z] disrupts grinding unless used as a finisher.

  • Crescent Dash is slow and predictable, making it easy to avoid.

  • Leaves the user exposed during move startup.

  • Poor synergy with Buddha due to range and hitbox limitations.

Verdict

A solid Legendary option for Second Sea grinding with simple combos and decent utility, but unreliable in PvP due to easy counters and limited range. Best used as a progression sword, not a long-term pick.
