Abyssal Bait
The Abyssal Bait is a Legendary bait for fishing. You craft it from the Angler in the Second Sea. It is the bait for the deep-sea catches: the Legendary Angler fish and Deepglow Oarfish only appear with it.

Only Abyssal Bait catches the Angler fish and Deepglow Oarfish, so no other bait will do for those two. The other three fish have more than one option, shown in the table. The Look column shows each fish.

Abyssal Bait is crafted, not found: you unlock it with Angler quests, then pay Beli and a Demonic Wisp.
How to craft Abyssal Bait, step by step
Fish until you reach fishing level 20, then talk to the Angler at the Green Zone dock (Dock 3) in the Second Sea.
Pick the Quest option and finish 5 quests (the Trust requirement). Each one gives 1 Trust, and accepting one starts a 15-minute wait.
Quests are random: catch a fish of a set rarity, catch 3 fish in 2 minutes 5 seconds, land 3 perfect casts and 3 perfect reactions, or use a rod skill 3 times.
Farm a Demonic Wisp: Demonic Souls in the Haunted Castle (Third Sea) drop it at a low chance. Six of them spawn there, level 2025, and they respawn every 20 seconds. You need Third Sea access first, which opens at level 1500.
Back at the Second Sea Angler, craft one pack of 10 Abyssal Baits for 25,000 Beli and 1 Demonic Wisp.

Abyssal Bait strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- Needs only 5 Trust, half of Epic Bait's 10, the only other Legendary bait.
- Cheaper than the other Legendary bait, Epic Bait (50,000 Beli + 1 Terror Eyes).
Weaknesses
- Fishing for the Deepglow Oarfish at the Cursed Ship means sailing out to it by boat, which you buy from a Boat Dealer.
- Its job is unlocking fish: it has no bonus that speeds up bites.
Verdict
Craft Abyssal Bait if you are filling your Fishing Index or chasing its Legendary fish. Skip it if you fish for Beli or levels: the Basic Bait at 1,000 Beli covers that.
Abyssal Bait tips
- To fish at the Cursed Ship, sail out from Dock 2 (the Angler's Green Zone dock is Dock 3) toward the large plus-shaped structure on the Second Sea horizon, and fish from the platform on its back side.
- Baits run out. A rod with the Baitless Catch enchant skips using one 2%, 4% or 6% of the time at levels 1 to 3, and the Conserve Bait skill cuts bait use by 25% for 120 seconds. Both come from scroll enchants at the Dragon Talon Sage.
- Each 10-pack you buy from the Angler gives your Bait passive 10 XP.
