Fishing

Fishing is a mechanic that lets players catch fish by using bait near water bodies. It provides a consistent way to obtain fish and other fishing rewards without defeating enemies.

Obtainment:

A Fishing Rod can be obtained by speaking to the Fisherman NPC, who can be found in Frozen Village, Kingdom of Rose, and Port Town. These NPCs all provide access to the same tool, allowing players to start fishing regardless of which sea they are currently exploring.

Process:
Fishing begins by casting a Fishing Rod into a body of water. When a red exclamation mark (!) appears, the player must react quickly to hook the catch and start the reeling minigame. During this phase, the goal is to keep the fishing bar aligned with the moving fish by holding or tapping to move the bar to the right, while releasing lets it drift back to the left. Rarer fish are more difficult to catch, as they move more unpredictably and require better timing and control during the reeling process.

Drops:
Fish:
Players can randomly catch fish while fishing, with some catches depending on the location where the player is fishing. Caught fish can be sold to the Fisherman for Money, and each successful catch grants 25% of the player’s experience needed for the next level, making fishing a reliable alternative for gaining levels without combat.

Soggy Boots:
Soggy Boots are an uncommon fishing reward that can occasionally be caught while fishing. They have no gameplay purpose and are only stored as inventory items.

Sunken Chests:
Sunken Chests are special fishing rewards that appear as chest icons during the reeling minigame. Players must move the fishing bar over the chest to catch it. A player can normally obtain four Sunken Chests every 24 hours, or six with the Blessing of an Angler’s Treasure enchantment. These chests can contain different rewards depending on their type, including Money, Scrolls, Fragments, or Blox Fruits. Catching 500 Sunken Chests unlocks the “Treasure Catcher” title, although the game currently does not show a player’s total chest catches.

Random Blox Fruit:
Players have a low chance of catching a physical Blox Fruit while fishing. When this happens, the fishing minigame becomes more difficult than normal, similar to catching Legendary Fish, requiring better timing and control to successfully reel in the reward.

Note in a Bottle:
A Note in a Bottle is a rare fishing reward that unlocks consumable crafting recipes. These recipes include Berserker’s Elixir, Fortune Elixir, Aggro Elixir, Loot Seeker, Fish Kebab, and Lava Potion, which can be crafted at a Campfire. Each recipe only needs to be collected once, after which it remains permanently unlocked.

Progression:
Players can view their Fishing Level and skills by interacting with the Fisherman NPC. Fishing progression is increased by catching fish and completing Angler Quests, which also helps improve the player’s available bait and fishing abilities. Holding a Fishing Rod near other players who are also fishing provides a +2.5% Fishing Luck boost to all nearby rod holders. This bonus stacks with more players, up to a maximum increase of 15% Fishing Luck. The current maximum Fishing Level a player can reach is 100.

Angler:
The Angler NPC becomes available after reaching Fishing Level 20. Players can interact with him to access advanced Fishing Rods and bait, which are unlocked by increasing the Angler’s trust through fishing progression. These upgrades provide access to better fishing equipment and improve the player’s ability to catch higher value rewards.

Passives:
Fishing Passives are small upgrades that improve different parts of the fishing experience. Each passive can be leveled up by performing related actions, requiring 150 passive experience per level, and players can check their progress by talking to the Fisherman NPC. The Bait passive increases bait effectiveness and is upgraded by purchasing bait, with 10 baits granting 10 experience. The Casting passive reduces the delay before fish bite and improves through repeated rod casts. The Control passive increases the width of the fishing bar during the reeling minigame, making catches easier by leveling it up through successfully keeping the lure locked onto the fish.
