Materials
Materials

Materials are items dropped by enemies and are primarily used for crafting, weapon upgrades, unlocking Fighting Styles, and meeting progression requirements for items such as the Skull Guitar and fighting styles like Godhuman.
Most materials have at least one practical use, while Gunpowder currently has no active purpose, though it was previously used to craft limited-time Halloween Potions.
Materials are generally obtained by defeating NPCs that are found across various islands. Some of these collectibles have very low drop rates, so obtaining them would require you to defeat a large number of enemy NPCs. This also makes grinding enemies the most efficient way of farming materials.

It is highly advised that you use weapons or fruits with large AoE abilities to farm materials. Their abilities to target a large number of enemies at once make this task a lot easier.
Enemies in the First Sea are comparatively weaker, also making them an easier target for farming materials.
