Mutations are alternate versions of existing Blox Fruits that change the fruit’s appearance while also altering its abilities. Unlike Skins, which are purely cosmetic, Mutations can affect how the fruit performs in gameplay.

Obtainment:

Mutations can be obtained through several event based methods, including purchasing event bundles from the Shop, finding them under trees during their associated events, trading for them as special items, and completing limited time event activities such as event Gachas, such as the Halloween Gacha for Werewolf. Once obtained, Mutations can be equipped from the Wardrobe section of the Inventory while the corresponding fruit is equipped, or through the Permanent Blox Fruits Shop by selecting Mutations under the respective fruit. While the physical Mutation items are event limited, players who own the Permanent version of the base fruit can purchase its Mutation at any time.

Physical Fruits:
Physical Mutations work differently from Skins. When a player first eats a physical mutated fruit, they gain access only to the Mutation and cannot switch to the base fruit. After switching to the original fruit once, or by owning its Permanent version, the player can freely switch between the base fruit and its Mutation. The Werewolf Mutation was briefly an exception during the early hours of the 2025 Halloween Event, when eating the physical fruit granted access to both Werewolf and Tiger, but this was quickly changed. Players who obtained it before the change retained that access. Empyrean is currently the only Mutation with a Skin, which only changes its color palette. Since Mutations have separate obtainment methods and Mastery from their original fruits, they are best treated as distinct fruits rather than simple variants.
